At first glance, Square Appointments appears to be a scheduling software that’s supposed to make your life easier. It’s the kind of app that lets you arrange your appointments, allows your customers to book online, and will send you reminders before an appointment so you don’t miss it. And while it is certainly all of that, it is also much more than that.
If you are looking for automated booking software, this is one of the first you will be recommended. So, let’s do a proper review to understand the advantages and disadvantages of using SQUARE APPOINTMENTS and all the features the app has to offer other than basic scheduling.
Square Appointments, while indeed, focuses on appointments and makes it easy for us to book appointments as well as manage them so that you can get everything done in time. However, it also allows you to take orders from your customers and accept payment and tips in return and make discounts on your offered services or products that your customers could avail of.
The most surprising and one of the best things about Square Appointment has to be that it is, in fact, free if you are flying solo. If you are a single, independent contractor using the app, you can use it entirely for free. The only thing you remotely need is a SQUARE along with a stable internet connection with whatever device you chose to access the app on.
One of your worries might be that the Square Appointment is a part of the Square platform. It might bring up the question of whether you have to use all Square software to access the Square Appointment app. Well, good thing Square doesn’t force you to use the entire platform. You can only SIGN UP for Square Appointment if that is what you specifically need. Of course, there are some hiccups in this as some of the features, such as the booking solution doesn’t make complete sense unless it is combined with the payment processing service of Square.
Alternatively, if you are already a loyal Square platform user, it makes more than enough sense to add Square Appointment to that collection. There is no need for you to look for any other scheduling software when Square Appointment seamlessly incorporates itself with other services from SQUARE.
SQUARE is also a completely cloud-based software. Information gets automatically updated on the cloud, and as long as you have an internet connection, you would be able to log in to your Square account and review this information.
Let’s take a look at some of the other features.
One of the other unique features is the offline mode, which can be found in the settings section of the Square app. This setting allows you to swipe the credit cards provided to you by your customers on the reader even when there is an internet outage. This way, when the connection is back up, the payment is automatically processed.
There are about three plans, but they aren’t divided into tiers in the sense that if you pay more, you will get more scheduling features. Instead, all three plans have all the scheduling features available. Instead, the pricing is based on the number of people using a SINGLE ACCOUNT.
For example, for an individual, it is entirely free. Only, in case of a transaction occurring on the app, 2.6 percent is cut from your account along with $0.10 for every transaction. This is a little different if you have two to five staff using the account. In that case, a payment of $50 has to be paid per month with 2.5 percent and an additional $0.10 for every transaction.
For six to ten staff, the payment per month turns to $90. The payment processing amount is the same as the 2 to 5 staff one.
At first glance, the payment per month for 2 to 5 staff looks really expensive. And while other scheduling software asks for less per month, they also don’t offer all the features of the Square appointment app. Conversely, you are limited on the amount of staff you can allow to use an account, but you don’t have to worry about limited features with Square appointments.
While you can sell products on Square appointment, however, it must be noted that the app is specifically made to accommodate those working in the service industry. The app is essentially about booking appointments, and no one else needs to book more appointments than service industry staff. This app is for those working in salons, wellness, and other such industries. If you have a service-business with some items to sell along with it, Square can be a great help to you.
The UI is particularly attractive for a new user. SIGNING UP is easy with a simple set of parameters. The overall software is interactive but simple. There is the calendar feature, which is similar to the Google Calendar and can be synced with it. Appointments can be booked in blocks by clicking on the date and time.
There is an online booking option that lets you set up how the booking flow would look like. It is where you essentially set up the main website, and the system takes about 10 minutes at most. There are enough customization options, but not too much that you get confused.
There is the checkout feature where you can swipe your customer’s card to your reader and have the information updated on the Appointment app, or if you don’t have a reader, type in the information in the checkout box.
- Can be used for free individually
- Comes with a free online store
- Interface that makes it easy to learn and use
- Zoom integration isn’t provided
- Customization options are limited
SQUARE APPOINTMENTS is especially beneficial for small businesses rather than large ones. Its entire pricing system is based on the assumption that you have a small number of employees. Someone with a huge staff count probably doesn’t have much use for the app unless they use it for personal purposes.
If you have a small amount of staff but need access to proper scheduling software that doesn’t hold off on all its features for you, this is your app. If you are an individual, this is your app. Your workload will be so much lighter with this app to take care of one of the big headaches of scheduling appointments for you.
